IRNA – Myanmar's Government has blocked 40-ton Iran's humanitarian aid shipment for the affected people of Myamar, an official said.
According to President Hassan Rouhani's command, a work group has been formed in Red Crescent Society to send aids to Myanmar, Secretary General of Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mostafa Mohammadion told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Sunday.
After consulting with Iranian ambassador to Bangladesh, the humanitarian convoy will be sent to Myanmar by plane, he said.
Mohammadion went on to say that Iran is ready to dispatch relief and treatment teams and also relief shipments to Myanmar.
Prior to the 2015 Rohingya refugee crisis and the military crackdown in 2016 and 2017, the Rohingya population in Myanmar was around 1.1 to 1.3 million. They reside mainly in the northern Rakhine townships.
Many Rohingyas have fled to neighboring states. More than 100,000 Rohingyas in Myanmar live in camps for internally displaced persons, not allowed by authorities to leave.
