IRNA – Iran supports legal governments in the region, a member of Iran's Expediency Council said on Wednesday.
Ali Akbar Velayati told reporters after his meeting with Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.
He pointed to various delegations' visit to Tehran in recent days, and said that the meetings were in line with Iran's policy for supporting the legal governments and the regional nations.
The resistance axis would stand against the US and Zionists' conspiracies and would counter their evil intentions for partitioning of regional countries, Velayati noted.
He said that Iran will oppose any measure aimed at weakening Iraq and welcomes any measure that result in reinforcement of the country.
The official pointed to the Syrian army achievements in eliminating terrorism and said, God willingly, it will also result in expulsion of the US from Syria.
'Their goal is to partition Syria,' he said in a reference to Washington's support for the Syrian Kurds and establishment of 12 bases in the Syrian territory.
The official noted that most of the Iraqi people and Kurds support Iraq's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
