Azeri president describes Tehran trilateral meeting, congenial

IRNA – Azeri President Ilham Aliyev has stressed that the trilateral meeting between Iran-Azerbaijan and Russia presidents in Tehran was good and congenial.


Such trilateral meetings and cooperation would lead to a bright future, Aliyev said while speaking at a joint press briefing held in the Iranian capital on Wednesday with his Iranian and Russian counterparts.

The trio attended the second round of their summit to exchange views on major issues of interests including promotion of economic ties and cooperation on fight against terrorism. The news conference was held after Tehran-Moscow-Baku Summit.

The Azeri president said that the three countries enjoy historical cooperation in the areas of oil, gas and energy and the three capitals have a high level of relations.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia is very important to strengthen regional security and stability, said President Aliyev.

The trilateral cooperation can also play an effective role in development of the economic infrastructures, the Azeri president noted.

During the trilateral Summit, the three presidents focused on talks on continuation of cooperation to finalize railway and road infrastructures within the framework of the North-South Transport Corridor which the Azeri president said the Azeri part of the project is ready to completely become operational.

The North–South Transport Corridor is a sea, rail, and road route expected to facilitate and boost exchange of goods between India, Russia, Iran, Europe and Central Asia.
