IRNA – Iranian schools host more than 500,000 foreign refugee students, said Iran's minister of education in a tweet on Saturday.
'Iran, as a signatory of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, is committed to implement its content, and has always taken steps to materialize its goals through passing laws or amendments of the [existing] laws,' said Mohammad Bathai in the fifth conference of Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)
held in February 21-25 in Rabat, Morocco.
There are over 2,500,000 Afghan refugees living in Iran, out of whom only about 20% are legal. The illegal refugees had problems for education before. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei facilitated their education in Iranian schools through an order to the Minister of Education of Iran.
