IRNA – The second Russian cargo train for the current year carrying 330,000 tons of woods arrived in the border city of Astara Railway Wharf on Saturday.
Governor of Astara Yunes Ranjkesh told Islamic Republic News Agency that the train has passed 4,300 kilometers from Russia to Iran.
He added that the consignment will be loaded on Trucks and dispatched to its destination.
Ranjkesh said trains from Russia and Azerbaijan Republic are are still arriving in Astara railway station.
Iran and Azerbaijan Republic agreed in early 2016 to create railway connection between the two countries in order to develop economic relations and this year the test passages were experienced and in future by connection to Rasht-Qazvin railway the north-south railway corridor will become active.
Port city of Astara by population of 91,000 is located in west of Gilan province and has 38 kilometers land border and 15 kilometers water border with Azerbaijan Republic.
