Japanese deputy FM, top Iranian officials meet in Tehran

March 5, The Iran Project - This week Japanese Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Mori traveled to Tehran to hold talks with several high-ranking Iranian officials.

While in Tehran, the Japanese official held separate meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Leader's Senior Advisor Ali Akbar Velayati and attended the 25th round of Iran-Japan political talks chaired by his counterpart Abbas Araqhchi.

Talking to Mori, Zarif highlighted the good relations between the two countries in various fields and called for expansion of economic cooperation and interaction between the two countries especially in the fields of economy.

Also in the meeting, the latest regional and international issues were discussed by the two diplomats.

Bilateral ties, regional and international issues and Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) were among topics reviewed by the two officials.

Meanwhile, Velayati in a meeting with Mori said Iran is ready to expand relations with Japan in various fields, expressing hope that this visit will be a constructive and valuable journey with favorable achievements in line with expansion of cooperation between the two sides.

The Japanese diplomat, in this meeting, for his part, thanked the Iranian officials for paving the ground for his visit and voiced his country’s readiness to develop ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the 25th round of Iran-Japan political talks, the two sides conferred the latest developments concerning bilateral ties, regional and international issues, as well as ways to expand cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo.

The Japanese’s side reaffirmed his country’s decisive support for the landmark nuclear deal, and voiced Japan’s readiness to further develop relations with Iran.
