Tasnim – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel held talks on a range of issues, including the latest developments in Lebanon.
In the meeting held in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Sunday, Zarif and Kardel exchanged views about the recent developments in Lebanon.
On May 6, the Lebanese people voted for their favorite candidates competing for 128 parliamentary seats. Hezbollah and its political allies won more than half of the seats in the polls.
On Wednesday, Lebanon’s Amal Movement leader Nabih Berri was re-elected as the parliament speaker for the sixth time since 1992.
The Sunday meeting between Zarif and the UN diplomat came a day after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Lebanon on the anniversary of the liberation of its southern regions from Israeli occupation back in 2000.
