Press TV- The Islamic Republic of Iran has upheld its position as the third greatest country in Asia in the latest edition of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE)rankings, thanks to the great results that Iranian international masters and grandmasters have registered at continental and international sports events.
According to the latest rankings released by the international organization that connects the various national chess federations around the world and acts as the governing body of international chess competition, Iran accumulated 2,543 points on average to secure the 28th spot in the world.
Other Asian teams include China, which grabbed the second global slot in the latest FIDE rankings with 2,706 points, and took the position as Asia’s best.
India claimed the fourth world spot with 2,675, and was named the continental runner-up.
Moreover, FIDE picked Russia as the top-ranked in world, with 2,744 points.
The United States of America collected 2,704 to claim the third position, while fifth-place Ukraine garnered 2,674 points.
Azerbaijan stood sixth in the world rankings with 2,670 points.
