Iranian presidential candidate Mohammad Gharazi says the next administration should first control price hikes before resolving any other issues.
“Any problem in the country you (try to) take care of without solving the issue of inflation will remain unsolved,” the reformist candidate said during a televised message broadcast on Sunday.
Gharazi said he would decentralize the administration and privatize state-run entities under the Iranian constitution if elected president in the June election.
He reiterated that the people of each province in the Islamic Republic should choose their own governors.
He also promised to avoid favoritism and seek help from former officials in his future administration.
In Iran’s upcoming presidential election, Gharazi will be competing against lawmaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Hassan Rohani, the director of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, former First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, and former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati.
The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election, and the Guardian Council vets the candidates.
Iranians go to the polls in the nation’s 11th presidential election on June 14. Over 66,000 polling stations will be set up across the country. Expatriates will also be able to cast ballots at 285 polling stations that will be set up in foreign countries.
