SHANA -- National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) is currently supplying a daily amount of 285 million cubic meters of natural gas to the country's power plants to meet the growing demand for electricity in summer.
According to NIGC, Mehdi Jamshididana, director of dispatching at NIGC, said the amount had been supplied to power plants since the beginning of summer (June 22) in order to bolster power supply across the country and prevent load-shedding.
The supplied gas has been provided given the maximum capacity of power plants to receive gas, he said.
Last calendar year (ended on March 20), NIGC supplied 67.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas to power plants which accounted for 90% of the country's electricity generation.
