IRNA – Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland reiterated United Nations Security Council’s verification of JCPOA, saying the Canadian government believes that the deal is essential for regional and global peace and security.
She made the remarks in response to a letter by Iranian-Canadians Congress on the country’s policy regarding Iran, adding that Canada will certainly support regulations passed based on international norms.
“Although the JCPOA is not a perfect agreement but it helps ward off real threat to international peace and security,” she said.
Freeland who has issued a statement in support of the JCPOA, also recalled that during meeting of G7 foreign ministers held in Toronto, they voiced their support for the landmark deal.
On May 8, US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the JCPOA, which drew harsh criticism from the international community and other parties to the deal.
