4 Aug 2018 - 10:52

Tasnim – In a congratulatory message to Niger on its Independence Day, the president of Iran voiced Tehran’s readiness to enhance ties with Niamey in various fields.

Hassan Rouhani sent the message to his Nigerien counterpart Mahamadou Issoufou on Saturday to congratulate the West African country on its Independence Day, which marks the nation's independence from France some 60 years ago.

In his letter, Rouhani expressed the hope that the two Muslim nations would expand their relations in all fields in light of their officials’ resolve and the two countries’ potential.

Niger gained independence from France in 1960.

In October 2017, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif paid a visit to Niger and held talks with the African country’s senior officials, including Prime Minister Brigi Rafini and President Issoufou, on ways to boost the bilateral relations.

Expansion of relations with African nations in all political, economic and cultural fields is top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy.
