IRNA – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, in a message on Saturday, congratulated Mohammed al-Halbousi on his election as Iraq's new Parliament speaker.
Hailing exemplary relations between the two neighboring countries, Larijani expressed the hope that friendly ties between Tehran and Baghdad will further promote during al-Halbousi’s tenure in office.
Noting that Iran attaches special significance to the Iraqi nation, the Iranian official expressed the hope that establishment of security in Iraq will bring further progress and welfare for the Iraqi people.
Al-Halbousi, 37, the former governor of Anbar province, gained the majority of votes in the Iraqi Parliament on Saturday to become the youngest parliament speaker in the Middle East.
