IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi held talks with the Iraqi new Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi late Tuesday.
During the meeting, Masjedi congratulated Abdul Mahdi on his election as the country’s new prime minister.
Reaffirming Iran’s support for Iraqi reconstruction and boosting political and security stability, the envoy voiced Iran’s readiness for promoting cooperation with Iraq in various fields.
Both sides also discussed bilateral ties as well as avenues for promoting them in the economic and commercial fields.
Iraq's parliament elected the veteran Kurdish politician Barham Salih as the country's new president last week, a step toward forming a new government nearly five months after national elections.
Salih has named independent Shia candidate Adel Abdul Mahdi as prime minister-designate, after an inconclusive national election in May.
