IRNA – Everything has been prepared to provide the security of pilgrims in Arbaeen rituals, Iran Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said.
Rahmani Fazli made the remarks while arriving at Ilam airport to visit the facilities prepared for the pilgrims going to Iraq holy shrines through Mehran border.
'Big strides have been taken for improving the security conditions and to reinforce necessary infrastructures,' he said.
Providing a safe and calm trip for pilgrims is the duty of all officials, he added.
About 60% of Arbaeen pilgrims choose Mehran international border for travelling to Iraq.
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. It marks the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of the Shia Muslims.
Every year millions of Iranians travel to the holy cities of Iraq to make an Arbaeen pilgrimage. This year Arbaeen falls on October 30.
