24 Oct 2018 - 9:29

IRNA - Senior assistant to Iran's foreign minister Hossein Jaberi-Ansari said Tuesday that guarantor states of Astana peace talks are trying to pave the way for step by step return of Idlib to the legal government of Syria without casualties or big problems.

He made the remarks upon arrival in Moscow at the head of a delegation to hold talks about latest developments in the region, especially Syria and Yemen.

He also hoped that Iran, Russia and Turkey as guarantor states of Astana peace talks would be able to achieve the goal in cooperation with each other and Syria would take control of Idlib without extensive human costs.

The issue was discussed during the trilateral meeting of the trio in Tehran, he said.

The parties was at odds over priorities in Idlib and way of settling the issue, but finally Iran’s moderate proposal considering all regional conditions was agreed upon by the participants, Ansari said.

The agreement achieved by the tree countries has a time table and they are seeking to implement it, he said, noting that some sections of the agreement have already been fulfilled.

One of the topics to be discussed during the trilateral and bilateral meetings in Moscow in the next two days will be latest situation of Idlib and completing the agreement reached earlier, he said.

Idlin situation is sensitive and complicated, as three million people are living in the province and international terrorists groups are in control of the province, Ansari said.

Iranian official also said that he will also take part in meetings focusing on the latest developments in Yemen during his trip to Moscow to help end humanitarian crisis in the impoverished country.
