November 5, The Iran Project - Iranian people from all walks of life took to the streets across the country to mark the anniversary of the 1979 takeover of the US embassy in Tehran, denouncing US arrogant policies.
This year's rallies come after the US administration decided on Friday to reimpose all sanctions lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
Demonstrators in the capital Tehran have gathered on Sunday (Nov. 4) outside the former US diplomatic mission, also known as the “Den of Espionage,” chanting slogans against the United States.
Similar rallies were held in more than 1,000 cities and towns across Iran, with participants chanting "Death to the US”, "Death to Israel”, and "Hayhat minna az-zilla” (Never to Humiliation).
On November 4, 1979, and in less than a year after the victory of the Islamic Revolution that toppled a US-backed monarchy, a group of university students took over the US embassy in Tehran, which they believed had become a center of espionage and planning to overthrow the newly established Islamic system in Iran, and held 52 American diplomats for 444 days.
President Hassan Rouhani hailed massive turnout in 13 Aban rallies, saying that holding National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance is indicative of popular attachment to the Islamic Revolution.
“Glorious holding of National Day of Fighting Global Arrogance at a time when US enmities are escalating following its withdrawal from the JCPOA indicates popular attachment to the Islamic Revolution and its ideals,” Rouhani noted, adding, "The 13 Aban rallies showed that after a lapse of 40 years since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the Iranian people has still deep-rooted and unbreakable bond with the revolution’s ideals."
Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli-Larijani said message of Aban 13 (November 4) nationwide rallies in Iran is that “our vigilant people are present in the arenas and preserve their independence and dignity.”
Amoli-Larijani noted that the enemies should never talk to the Iranian nation by the language of bullying as the nation has been standing against all sanctions and pressures about four decades.
Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said that if Americans remained in their ‘Den of Espionage’, the Islamic Revolution would not have lasted for forty years.
Interim Government of Iran was after diverting the Islamic Revolution with having secret contacts with the United States, he said, adding that university students which followed the late Imam Khomeini’s thoughts couldn’t stand this situation and took over the US embassy
He went on to add that the Pentagon has banned the spreading of any news about Iranian military power among its soldiers in the region so as to not affect their spirit.
Also on Saturday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the US has been trying for the past 40 years to regain the domination it had over Iran under the Shah but to no avail.
