IRNA – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday appointed Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani as new chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council.
Ayatollah Amoli Larijani is Iran’s current judiciary chief.
The appointment follows the death of Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the former chairman of the Council.
In his decree, Ayatollah Khamenei also appointed Ayatollah Amoli Larijani as one of the jurisprudent members of the Guardians Council.
Noting that the Expediency Council is expected to undergo critical changes in the new term, the Supreme Leader said that given Ayatollah Amoli Larijani’s brilliant record in the Guardians Council and in managing the judicial system, he will hopefully shoulder his new responsibilities in the best way.
Ayatollah Khamenei wished success for Ayatollah Amoli Larijani and his colleagues in the new posts.
