Iranians commemorate epic 2009 pro-establishment rallies

1 Jan 2019 - 18:27

December 31, The Iran Project - Iranian people poured into the streets to mark a massive rally back in 2009 during which the nation renewed allegiance to the Islamic Republic and ended what the Iranian authorities described as "sedition" in the wake of that year’s presidential election.

People from different walks of life participated in nationwide rallies on Sunday (Dec. 30) to honor “Dey 9” epic which refers to the mass rallies held on the ninth day of the Persian calendar month of Dey.

Addressing the demonstrators in Tehran, senior IRGC Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami, referring to the US failures in the face of the Iranian nation, said Washington has learned “the art of being defeated”.

He further pointed to the US walkout from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and stated Washington’s move to walk away from the deal indicates that it is confused about world leadership and lacks a strategy to lead the world.

Speaking to the demonstrators in Gorgan (North of Iran), IRGC Spokesman Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif said that the great and historic epic of ‘Dey 9’ is one of the unforgettable events in the history of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, which cannot be easily ignored.

He noted that the permanent conspiracy of enemies to inflict damage on Iran provided a golden opportunity for the country, one of its results being the strengthening of the defense system.

Sharif pointed to US economic sanctions against Iran and said, "Without a doubt, the new round of sanctions, in addition to continued progress and success, will lead to greater Iran’s sustainability in the economic sectors."

Addressing the demonstrators in the southwestern Iranian city of Ilam,  Ali Mohammad Naeini, an advisor to IRGC commander, said that today the enemies of the Islamic Revolution are seeking to highlight economic problems in the country to form a new sedition.

Naeini said that the 2009 sedition was a scenario predesigned by the Western countries and their internal supporters which sought to topple the Islamic system.

Talking to the demonstrators in the southwestern Iranian city of Yasouj,  Cultural Deputy of Iran’s Judiciary chief Hojjatoleslam Hadi Sadeqi said, "Today no decision can be enforced in the region without the will and effective presence of Iran".

He said that Iran has played a key role in annihilating Daesh and other Takfiri terrorist groups in the region and supporting resistance forces in Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and Palestine.

Today the United States has begun to pull out its forces from Syria after seven years and even some Arab countries are reopening embassies in Syria, Sadeqi added.
