IRNA -- Pakistani print and electronic media have given wide coverage to the talks between Iran and the Taliban to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Daily ‘Dawn’ reported that Iran has said that the Afghan Taliban have visited Tehran for a second round of peace talks in just a few days aimed at bringing an end to 17 years of conflict.

“A delegation of Taliban was in Tehran and lengthy negotiations were held with Iran’s deputy foreign minister... (Abbas) Ara­ghchi,” said spokesman Bahram Gha­semi at a televised news conference.

‘Express Turbine’ said Iran and Afghan Taliban have met to bring an end to 17 years of conflict in Afghanistan.

That came just days after Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, visited Kabul and told reporters that talks had been held with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Iran has confirmed that the Taliban had visited Tehran for a second round of talks in just a few days that are aimed at ending the 17-year conflict.

Daily ‘The News’ in its story said the Taliban discussed Afghanistan´s 'post-occupation situation' with Iran in their latest meeting, the group said.

The Taliban delegation discussed with Iran 'the post-occupation situation, restoration of peace and security in Afghanistan and the region', Taliban said in a statement posted on social media and emailed to journalists.

Iran has made a more concerted and open push for peace in neighbouring Afghanistan since US President Donald Trump indicated there would be a significant withdrawal of American troops.

‘Pakistan Today’ said the Taliban discussed Afghanistan’s “post-occupation situation” with Iran in their latest meeting, the group said, as Tehran makes a more concerted and open push for peace ahead of a possible US drawdown.

It signals growing confidence among the Taliban for US troops to pull out of Afghanistan, after US officials last month told various media outlets that President Donald Trump had decided to slash the number of boots on the ground.

‘The Nation’ said the Taliban representatives from Afghanistan have held talks with Iran in Tehran.

According to spokesman of foreign ministry of Iran, the talks were designed to set parameters for talks of the Taliban with the Afghan government. The spokesman said Taliban had held comprehensive talks with Iranian deputy foreign minister.

‘Dunya tv’ reported that the Taliban discussed Afghanistan's 'post-occupation situation' with Iran in their latest meeting, the group said.

The remarks come after Iran confirmed that the Taliban had visited Tehran for a second round of talks in just a few days that are aimed at ending the 17-year conflict.

‘Samaa tv’ said Afghan Taliban held peace talks with Iran. “A delegation of Taliban was in Tehran and lengthy negotiations were held with Iran’s deputy foreign minister… (Abbas) Araghchi,” said Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi at a televised news conference.

Ghasemi said Iran’s priority was “to help facilitate negotiations between Afghan groups and the country’s government”.

‘Abtak tv’ channel said Taliban representatives from Afghanistan have held negotiations with Iran in Tehran.
