Iran-Turkmenistan trade balance hits $312m

IRNA - A senior official says trade between the two countries in this current Iranian year (stated March 21) was $312 million, of which $305 million worth of Iran's exports to the Central Asiain country and seven million dollars were imported from Turkmenistan.

Iran's economic attaché to Turkmenistan Rahmatollah Khormali said on Saturday that 15 countries had been Turkmenistan's exporting destination, noting Iran ranked 13th among the world's countries.

He added, 'We have a land and sea border link of 1,200km with Turkmenistan, which is Iran’s fourth-largest trading partner after Turkey, China and Russia.'

Expressing that the economy of Turkmenistan has been diminished, Khormali said that the country's GDP has fallen from 10 to 6 which Turkmenistan is trying to reduce imports from other countries.

'In 2017, the country imported $ 4 billion, and in the 2018 survey, it managed 40% of the program,' he said.

The Iranian official added that the slogan of the country this year was to increase production, stating that it would replace the goods imported from other countries.
