IRNA – Iran and Iraq have chosen relations based on good neighborliness and will not seek permission from any one to continue with their relations, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi.
Qasemi made the remarks on Tuesday in reaction to interventionist comments by US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook about President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Iraq where he received warm welcome by the country’s government and nation.
“The anger of this American official is not surprising as it seems that despite spending billions of dollars in the Middle East, the country has failed to gain a proper place among regional nations which is definitely due to the country’s aggressive policy, militarism and intervention,” the spokesman said.
He said that the US officials should recognize the fact that the era of meddling in the affairs of other countries has come to an end.
Iran and Iraq, as two independent countries with governments coming out of ballot boxes, do not need a country “with a black record of invasion, creating war and destruction” to make decisions for them from thousands of kilometers away, Qasemi said.
