Quake jolts western Iran

IRNA - An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the town of Ezgele in western Iranian province of Kermanshah on Saturday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 14:58 hours local time (10:28 GMT) and at the depth of 8 km underground.

The epicenter of the quake was located at a longitude of 34.85 degrees and a latitude of 45.76 degrees.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damages to property.

Kermanshah has been jolted by several earthquakes since November 12, 2017, when a 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit the province's Ezgeleh region killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
