Iran envoy criticizes Europe for ineffective measures

12 May 2019 - 11:29

IRNA – Iran ambassador to Madrid Hassan Qashqavi slammed Europe for not being active with regard to Iran nuclear deal, saying Europe just releases statement and has not taken any effective action yet.

Speaking in an interview with Spanish radio, Qashqavi elaborated on the reason why Iran has decided to reduce its commitments under the nuclear deal, saying Europe has responded to Iran just by a statement and has taken no executive mechanism to regulate business with Iran.

He added that Iran has been complying with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) endorsed the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.

Iranian compliance with the JCPOA has been verified for 14 times by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Qashqavi urged Europe to take the issue as serious, saying Iran's new choice has been adopted based on the Supreme National Security Council's enactment and is supported by Iranian people.

Iran expects Europe to give a practical response, Iranian envoy said adding that Europe has accepted the fact that what US did has been against international law but has taken no effective step about its commitments yet.

Qashqavi reiterated the fact that diplomacy cannot be just prevarication and be limited to statements but it should be practical.

Iranians expect Europe to respond US unilateral sanctions with a more practical action.

Commenting on the danger of military confrontation between Iran and the US, he said the warmongering claims made by American officials and their allies are an option to show Iran as a threat.

Iran is not a threat and has taken no measure to be taken as threat, he said referring to US false claims in Saddam Hussein era.

He went on to say that US officials are aware of Iran's military power and they know Iran has no fear and will not retreat.

Iranians are serious in defending sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country, Qashqavi said adding that Iranian people had experienced this issue during the war imposed by Iraq on Iran.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Iran will give a 60-day moratorium to the states parties to Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to remedy their breaches and restore Iran's interests enshrined by the international deal.

Iranian Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in a statement announced that Iran has stopped some of its commitments under the JCPOA as of May 8, 2019.

Over the past year and after the US illegal withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and its breach of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the Islamic Republic of Iran has shown most of its self-restraint and has given considerable opportunity on requests made by other parties to JCPOA, the statement reads.

May 8 marks the first anniversary of the US unilateral withdrawal from the Iran Deal formally known as the JCPOA endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.
