Iran opposed to nukes as they are forbidden by Islam: Zarif

12 Oct 2019 - 16:33

Tasnim – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran is diametrically opposed to nuclear arms as their development, acquisition, stockpiling and use are prohibited under Islamic law.

“Iran's Leader has long made it abundantly clear that nuclear weapons are immoral & contravene Islamic principles. Their development, acquisition, stockpiling & use is thus forbidden,” Zarif said in a tweet on Saturday.

He incorporated part of a recent speech by Ayatollah Khamenei on nuclear arms in his tweet and added, “We're categorically opposed to nuclear arms as a religious/moral duty & strategic imperative”.

Recently, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Iran will never spend its resources on developing nuclear weapons, the proliferation, stockpiling and using of which are forbidden by the religion of Islam.

In a meeting with top Iranian students and young prodigies on Wednesday, the Leader said that science unlocks the true benefits of knowledge only when it is paired with the right understanding of humanitarianism.

“In the case of the key and very beneficial nuclear science... when it was paired with a thirst for more power, it resulted in the creation of the nuclear weapon and turned into a major threat to the world and humanity,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
