Terrorist MKO members likely to have contracted COVID-19, says historian

16 Apr 2020 - 15:55

Press TV - The camp of the anti-Iran terrorist Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) in Albania is highly likely infected with the deadly coronavirus, a historian says.

In an interview with the Balkan Post published on Wednesday, Dr. Olsi Jazexhi, a Canadian-Albanian historian, argued that the possibility that coronavirus has infected the MKO camp in Albania is highly likely, but he said it was not easy at all to obtain accurate information as members of the terror group lived in “total isolation and secrecy.”

“Since we do not have access to their camp, we do not know how they are coping with coronavirus. Their 3,000 or so members live separate from us and are kept in total lockdown. Since the outbreak of coronavirus, their commanders who were seen moving in Tirana before, are not seen outside anymore,” Jazexhi said.

He made the remarks in response to a question about the situation in the MKO camp in Albania amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He said some defectors from the group have said that the MKO camp is suffering from coronavirus infection as their camp of Manza is situated between the cities of Tirana and Durres, which have the highest number of infections in Albania.

“We have infected doctors and nurses in the hospitals of Tirana and Durres, places where many old MKO soldiers receive treatment. Thus the possibility that coronavirus has infected their camp is highly likely,” he noted.

He said that if coronavirus has already penetrated the MKO camp, the cult members “will die en masse” as “the vast majority” of them “are old, suffer from different diseases, live close to each other, and in case coronavirus enters the camp it will devastate the organization and few will survive.”

Since its emergence in central China in late December 2019, the deadly coronavirus has infected 2,017,667 people worldwide, and as many as 128,041 have lost their lives, according to the latest figures by the worldmeters website on Wednesday.

Europe is an epicenter of the unprecedented virus, as major countries, including Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the UK stand behind the US in the global confirmed cases tally.

Albania, a country in Eastern Europe, hosts a camp by notorious MKO terrorist members.

The MKO has conducted many assassinations and bombings against Iranian officials and civilians since Iran’s Islamic Revolution four decades ago. It notoriously sided with former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during his 1980-88 war on Iran.

Out of the nearly 17,000 Iranians killed in terrorist assaults since the Revolution, about 12,000 died in MKO’s acts of terror.

The terrorist outfit was on the US list of terrorist organizations until 2012. Major European countries, including France, have also removed it from their blacklists.
