Minister: Iranian scientists making progress in anti-coronavirus vaccine production

18 Jul 2020 - 13:27

FNA - Health Minister Saeed Namaki declared the advances made by several Iranian research teams in the production of vaccine for the COVID-19 disease.

"The Iranian-made vaccine worked on animals and yielded good results and will be soon experimenting for humans too," Namaki said.

The Iranian health minister pointed to the activities of 57 research groups to produce the COVID-19 vaccine, and said, "Iran is one of the most active countries in international research and participates in a very high number of research cases and results."

In relevant remarks last week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underscored efforts by the country’s scientists to produce vaccine and drugs in campaign against coronavirus.

“We stand among the countries which are trying to discover vaccine and medicine in fight against coronavirus. We do all our best to produce the vaccine and needed drugs,” President Rouhani said, addressing a meeting of the national coronavirus campaign headquarters in Tehran on Saturday.

He appreciated the Iranian people for wearing mask to prevent coronavirus infection, and called on the health ministry, different unions and judiciary to help better monitor implementation of the approvals of the national coronavirus campaign headquarters.

President Rouhani also appreciated the country’s Armed Forces for assisting the government in confrontation against coronavirus, and said Iran did not face any shortages of detergents and disinfectants and other products necessary for the fight against the epidemic while Europe and the US had such a problem.
