The Iranian administration’s spokesman says a planned visit by President Ebrahim Raeisi to Syria will focus on boosting bilateral relations and reinforcing the Axis of Resistance.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Ali Bahadori Jahromi described as “strategic” Raeisi’s two-day trip starting tomorrow.
“Tomorrow, the president will travel to Syria upon an official invitation by [Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad. The visit will take place after 13 years in continuation of the administration’s neighborliness diplomacy. It will focus on strengthening economic and political ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria, as well as the resistance axis,” he said.
“Bashar al-Assad had visited Iran twice. Raeisi’s trip is the first after internal tensions and war-mongering by Daesh terrorists with the sponsorship of some global and regional supporters of terrorism.”
“Economic ties in also high on the agenda. The two countries have had successful cooperation in various fields such as security and the fight against terrorism. Just like the effective and decisive cooperation in the season of fighting terrorism, the two countries can now stand together in the construction season taking into account Iran's engineering capabilities and capabilities,” Jahromi noted.
Iran maintains an advisory mission in Syria at the request of Damascus with the aim of helping the war-torn Arab country get rid of the foreign-backed militants, who have been fighting against the democratically-elected Syrian government since 2011.
Iran’s advisory assistance helped Syria defeat Daesh and win back control of almost all regions from terrorists.
Iran ready to help Syria in post-war era: Envoy
Also on Tuesday, Iran’s Ambassador to Damascus Hossein Akbari expressed Tehran’s readiness to help the Syrian nation and government pass through the post-war era.
In an interview with IRNA news agency, Akbari said that Tehran and Damascus have stood by each other in difficult times and maintained cordial relations over the past 44 years.
“Iran has proper capabilities in economic, production, technical-engineering, industrial and high tech fields as well as new technologies, and it has made good achievements in scientific and technological sectors,” he added.
“Like the war period, we are ready to help the Syrian people and government so that the country can overcome the current situation.”
The envoy further noted that the Iranian and Syrian expenditure has been appropriate as they today enjoy a victorious and superior position in the region while many countries are resuming their relations with the pair.
The resistance and perseverance of Iran and Syria against global arrogance created good opportunities in the region, he said, adding, “Regional conditions changed and went in another direction after the United States was defeated in all fronts against the resistance … and many of its allies … failed to achieve their objectives.”
