5 Jul 2023 - 17:39

Iran Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku, discussing mutual relations and leading regional and international issues.

At the head of a high-ranking delegation, Amir-Abdollahian arrived in the Azerbaijan capital of Baku on Tuesday evening to participate in the two-day Ministerial Meeting of the NAM Coordinating Bureau.

The meeting between Amir-Abdollahian and Aliyev took place in Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

With its main theme “NAM: United and steadfast in confronting emerging challenges,” the meeting opened earlier in the day with the inaugural speech by the Azerbaijani president.

Moreover, upon his arrival in Baku, the Iranian diplomat in a twee wrote, “Given the diversity of the member states, the Non-Aligned Movement is a special opportunity to improve multilateralism and collective thinking to solve new global challenges.”

He added that his visit to Baku would also provide an opportunity to promote Iran’s neighborliness policy in the region.

It is expected that the meeting will consider preparations for the upcoming 19th Summit Conference of the NAM Heads of State and Government, slated to be held in Kampala, Uganda, on January 15-20, 2024.
