The Iran Project - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has stated that the recent agreement with the United States to unblock Iran's frozen funds serves as a test for Washington.
"The release and transfer of our country’s assets from South Korea is part of the realization of the honorable diplomacy emphasized by the Supreme Leader," Hossein Amirabdollahian wrote in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) social media account.
Amirabdollahian emphasized that this deal is another test for the US and that Iran will continue its efforts to remove sanctions and ensure all parties return to their international commitments to Iran.
The Iranian foreign ministry confirmed that the process of releasing the funds has begun and expressed hopes for the release of Iranian prisoners held in US jails as well. Despite having no diplomatic relations with the US, Iran has expressed openness to prisoner exchange talks based on humanitarian concerns.
Earlier, the foreign ministry spokesman had clarified that the talks on unfreezing Iranian assets are not directly linked to negotiations to revive the 2015 nuclear deal but acknowledged that issues can affect each other. The talks to salvage the agreement began in April 2021 and have experienced interruptions due to US indecisiveness and procrastination..
