Iranian vice president for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy describes the digital economy as a successful experience for the country, saying it is a popular economy.
According to The Iran Project, Ruhollah Dehghani Firuzabadi made the comments at the 24th International Exhibition of Telecommunications, InformationTechnology, and Digital Economy dubbed “Iran TELECOM 2023” on Saturday.
Thanks to the global wave of information technology, the digital economy has receivedspecial attention in the country, and in the last 2 decades, a trend began withthe development of telecommunication infrastructure, which led to the developmentof the digital economy, he stated.
The digital economy accounts for about 15% of the world's gross domestic product,which is one-seventh of the world's economy, but in Iran, this figure accountsfor approximately 6%, which is about one-fifteenth, he stressed.
If we want to measure the development opportunity, now we have 2.5 times thedevelopment opportunity compared to the global GDP, the VP added.
Noting that the digital economy is one of the driving areas of the country, he said,“The digital economy in our country is now2.5 compared to the world average. And it can be grown up to 5 timescompared to the population.”
The vice president went on to say that another issue is that the field of digitaleconomy is fundamentally tied to technology.
In Iran, we enjoy many traditional economies, but fortunately, the digital economywas formed based on technology from the first day, and the mostknowledge-based economy we have in the country is the digital one, heconcluded.
The 24th International Exhibition of Telecommunications, Information Technology, andDigital Economy dubbed “Iran TELECOM 2023” was openned at the Tehran PermanentInternational Fairgrounds on Saturday.
The hi-tech products of the domestic knowledge-based companiesare unveiled at this edition of the exhibition.
The exhibitorshave showcased their latest products and achievements at six exhibitionhalls in the fields of knowledge-based, innovation, accelerators in the area ofthe digital economy, technology parks, and software and hardware.
The 24th InternationalExhibition of Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Digital Economywill run through December 26.
