An official with the agriculture ministry says according to preliminary estimations gained from the provinces, by the end of this year, more than 370,000 tons of pistachios will be produced in the country.

According to The Iran Project, Dariush Salempour made the remarks on the sidelines of the meeting on pistachio production and export improvement project.
 
In the past 2 years, due to spring frosts, we had a low harvest in pistachio gardens but this year, the production situation has improved and exports are also growing, he said.
 
He further described the joint technical cooperation document on pistachio between Iran and FAO (TCP) as one of the important, practical and strategic documents.
 
in which, using the technical and credit capacities of this organization, all production processes, processing and health and export supervision of pistachio are updated efficiently, he added.
 
According to this joint cooperation document, in the project to improve pistachio production and export through the establishment of comprehensive and integrated product management, international standards and the capacity of international technical consultations and world-class equipment are used, he stated.
 
The official went on to note that this cooperation document is for 2 years.
 
After 2 years, FAO support services will continue in the field of this project and all the stakeholders of the government sector, research, private sector organizations, Pistachio Association, Food and Drug Organization and Plant Protection Organization of the country are involved, he concluded.
