Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed the increase in trade turnover between his country and Iran.

According to The Iran Project, "Last year, the level of our trade turnover was slightly adjusted, but this year it has grown by 14% compared to the same period last year," the Russian leader said in a meeting with Iranian Acting President Mohammad Mokhber on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in the Kazakh capital of Astana.

According to Putin, "The free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran will contribute to further strengthening economic ties."

"The member states of the organization are considering Iran's application for the status of an observer state in the EAEU. We, for our part, will support it," Putin added, TASS reported.

Putin also described the political ties between the two countries as friendly and unbreakable and hailed the common stances of Tehran and Moscow on regional and international issues.
Mokhber, for his part, said the relations between Iran and Russia are deep, strategic and unalterable.

He added that the bilateral ties have changed power equations in the world and challenged the unfair order that is based on unilateralism.

He further hailed the growing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in trade, economic, energy and transportation fields.
