The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has said the country was pursuing establishment of the second and third units of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, which is located in southern Iran.
According to The Iran Project, “Based on existing laws and in light of the assertions that have been made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, some precise planning has gone underway towards setting up nuclear power plants on the country’s southern coastline, namely in the Bushehr, Khuzestan, Hormozgan, and Sistan and Baluchestan Provinces, as well as across the northern littoral aras, such as the Golestan Province,” Mohammad Eslami stated on Tuesday.
Over the next 17 years, the planning would lead to generation of 20,000 megawatts
of nuclear electricity, he added.
The official considered the Bushehr facility to be among the country’s “superior capacities” in the area of energy production, which has contributed to reducing the nation’s energy costs by preventing consumption of 105.7 million barrels of oil.
The facility has, over the recent years, made significant advances, leading to production of as much as 7,400,000,000 kilowatts of nuclear electricity, according to Eslami.
