6 Aug 2013 - 14:34

TEHRAN (FNA)- Jan Kubish, the Special Envoy of the UN Chief, praised Iranian officials for their unsparing efforts in finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Afghanistan.

Speaking in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh in Tehran, Kubish, who represents the UN chief in Afghanistan's affairs, described Iran’s initiative of holding Tehran-Kabul-Islamabad tripartite meeting on the Afghan crisis as very useful and voiced the UN support for the move.

Akhoundzadeh, for his part, pointed to the long history of Iran’s assistance to reconstruction process and establishment of the government rule in Afghanistan and said Tehran’s approach towards the neighboring country is a sustainable and strategic one.

He noted that confronting extremism and terrorism is a basic policy for Iran.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-hit country.

Iran has built some roads, power transmission lines, and border stations, among the other infrastructure projects which would better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts in the last 8 years.
