TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s top military officials congratulated Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Atieh on his appointment as Qatar’s new defense minister.


In separate messages, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi and Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari extended their felicitations to Major General al-Atieh.

Iranian Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Javad Asayesh Zarchi submitted the messages to Qatar’s defense minister in a meeting in Doha on Tuesday.

Iran’s Military Attaché in Qatar Lieutenant Brigadier General Masha’allah Porshe and a number of senior Qatari military officers were also present in the meeting.

The reshuffle in the Qatari cabinet came after the Qatari Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani ceded power to the 33-year-old crown prince Shaikh Tamim Bin Hamad last month.
