Pakistani police seize 25,000 illegal US, Israeli weapons

18 Aug 2013 - 16:41

TEHRAN (FNA)- Pakistani police forces have discovered and seized 25,000 US and Israeli weapons from different terrorist groups who use them for killing people to create panic in the South Asian country.

According to the media reports, over 25,000 weapons have been seized in different Pakistani provinces in the last 6 months, most of which were made by the US and Israeli companies.

The police announced earlier that most of the illegal weapons were discovered in Punjab province, adding that the weapons included 5,000 Kalashnikov, 17,000 pistols, and 5,000 hunting rifles.

According to the police, most of the weapons seized in Punjab province were found in the outskirts of Islamabad city which shows an unprecedented arms growth in the Pakistani capital.

This is while the Pakistani civilians are already targeted by the US drone attacks almost every day.

The United States says the CIA-run drone strikes primarily kill Taliban militants, who threaten the US-led international forces in neighboring Afghanistan, although casualty figures show that Pakistani civilians are often the main victims of the non-UN-sanctioned attacks.

The slaughter of Pakistani civilians, including women and children, in US drone strikes has strained relations between Islamabad and Washington, and Pakistani officials have complained to the US administration on numerous occasions.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the drone strikes are "simply unacceptable" and has asked Washington to end the attacks on Pakistan’s tribal areas.

In September 2012, a report by the Stanford Law School and the New York University School of Law gave an alarming account of the effect that assassination drone strikes have on ordinary people in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

"The number of ‘high-level’ targets killed as a percentage of total casualties is extremely low -- estimated at just 2 percent," the report noted.
