TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei praised the close ties between Iran and Oman, and called for further expansion of the two Muslim countries' relations.
In a meeting with visiting Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said here in Tehran on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the age-old amicable relations between Tehran and Muscat, and said, “There are multiple grounds for further expansion of the two countries’ relations in different fields, particularly in gas sector.”
The Leader also described Oman as a "good and true neighboring country for Iran", and called for further coordination between the two Muslim nations in the “sensitive and dangerous” situation that now prevails in the region.
During the meeting also attended by President Hassan Rouhani, the Omani Sultan expressed satisfaction with his meeting with Ayatollah Khamenei, and praised Iran-Oman ties as "very good" given the two countries’ cultural and historical links.
“In talks with Iran’s president, the grounds for further enhancement of relations in various sectors including economic and transit (sectors) and especially in gas sphere were studied,” Sultan Qaboos said.
President Rouhani officially welcomed Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said in Tehran’s Saadbad Palace on Sunday, as the first head of state he received since he took over as president in early August.
The reception ceremony protocol was fully performed and the two heads of state headed for their first round of talks behind closed doors on most important bilateral, regional, and international developments.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is keen to improve bilateral relations with Oman, President Hassan Rouhani had said on August 7.
