The Islamic Republic of Iran has produced more than 140,000 tons of aluminum ingots in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2013).
The volume of aluminum ingot production at the country’s three smelters -- Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO), the Al-Mahdi Aluminum Corporation (AAC), and Hormozal -- reached 149,307 tons during the five-month period.
The figure marked a seven-percent rise in comparison with the corresponding period of the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), IRNA reported.
The report added that IRALCO produced 74,717 tons of aluminum ingots in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year, while the volume of aluminum ingot production in AAC and Hormozal hit 44,830 and 29,760 tons respectively.
Meanwhile, Iran produced 104,896 tons of alumina powder during the mentioned period, which was 15 percent more than the figure in the same period of the previous Iranian calendar year.
The volume of aluminum ingot production in the country over the Iranian calendar month of Mordad (July 23-August 22) hit 29,747 tons, registering a nine-percent growth compared to the corresponding period last year.
In May 2012, Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade announced that Iran’s aluminum output would hit 1.5 million tons by the end of the country’s 20-Year Vision Plan, which runs until March 2025.
Iran plans to become the world’s 14th leading aluminum producer by the end of the 5th Economic Development Plan, which began in 2010 and ends in 2015.
