Tehran, Sept 25, IRNA – Member of Iranian Parliament Mansour Haqiqatpour pointed to the enthusiasm of western officials to meet with President Hassan Rouhani on the sideline of the UN meeting and said the West is realizing Iran’s special position in the Middle East.
Talking to IRNA, Haqiqatpour who is the vice chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis said the West is now aware that it will totally fail in the region in lack of Iran’s presence.
Turning to the visit of President Rouhani to New York to take part in the 68th meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, he described it as a rare opportunity for the nation to outline its views.
He said bilateral meetings with foreign officials taking place on the sidelines of the UN meeting help prepare ground for developing and expanding cooperation in political, economic and social areas.
Stressing that the interests of the Zionist regime and its allies in the region are bound to the policy of promoting Iranophobia and creating distances between Iran and the West, he said this policy is doomed to failure as the western countries are aware of the adverse outcomes of keeping aloof from Iran.
He said the US has to destroy the wall of distrust around it if it wants to get to good results, reiterating that though Iran is ready for talks, the US should first of all prove its regrets over its past record of actions against Iran.
