The Iranian men’s national volleyball team has overpowered Kazakhstan in its opening match at the 2013 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship.
Iranian volleyball players blanked Kazakhstan in an easy game in Pool C of the 17th round of the tourney at Hamdan bin Mohammed sports complex in the United Arab Emirates’ Dubai on Saturday.
Iran, which is placed in Pool C along with Kuwait and Kazakhstan, won the encounter in three straight sets: 25-21, 25-17, and 25-22.
The national squad, with Argentinean head coach Julio Velasco at helm, is currently on top of Pool C with three points, and is scheduled to take on Kuwait in its next match on Sunday.
In other matches of the first day, host UAE pounded Uzbekistan 3-1, Chinese Taipei blanked Saudi Arabia 3-0, Bahrain beat Myanmar 3-1, Sri Lanka pummeled Oman 3-0, and Iraq hit Afghanistan 3-0.
Twenty-four teams have participated in the tournament, which kicked off in Dubai on September 28 and will wrap up on October 6.
