Israel’s anti-Iran Propaganda in UN General Assembly failed, says Zarif

6 Oct 2013 - 12:43

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian foreign minister said the recent United Nations General Assembly produced good results for the Islamic Republic, adding that the Zionist regime of Israel faced a total failure in tarnishing the image of Iran on international arenas.
“The Zionist regime and its supporters had spent hundreds of millions of dollars to portray the intended imagefrom the Islamic Republic of Iran, but all these efforts unravelled in this trip,” Mohammad Javad Zarif said in an interview with the Iranian television on Saturday.

He pointed to the Israeli prime minister’s speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, saying Netanyahu attempted to raise propaganda against Iran instead of providing an explanation for his regime’s atrocities against the Palestinians.

“But” Zarif argued “he (Netanyahu) failed this year, and everybody said that Netanyahu was in a muddle about his own problems.”

On October 1, Netanyahu told the 68th session of the UN General Assembly that Iran must dismantle its entire nuclear program, repeating his baseless accusation that Tehran was seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

Zarif had announced earlier that the recent visit to New York by senior Iranian officials to attend the UN General Assembly was a "positive and proper opportunity" to convey the country's message to the world.

The visit was an opportunity to largely remove the huge amount of negative propaganda by the western and Zionist camps against the Islamic Republic in recent years, said the foreign minister on Wednesday.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani encouraged the entire countries, international organizations, and civil foundations to organize new efforts aimed at leading the world towards peace and security in his UN General Assembly address.

He underlined that instead of the incompetent coalition for war in different parts of the world, "we need to concentrate on coalition for sustainable peace throughout the world."

On the West's decade-long dispute with Tehran over its nuclear program, Rouhani said in nw York he wanted to reach a deal over the issue in three to six months.

Substantive nuclear negotiations between Iran and international powers are due to take place on 15 October and President Rouhani has promised Iran will bring a plan to the meeting.
