Well-known Azerbaijani politician Mohsun Mehralizadeh has been appointed to this post at the meeting of the Iranian Cabinet of Ministers on October 4.
Mehralizadeh was born in Maraga. The Azerbaijani politician was Vice President and the head of the National Sports Organization of Iran under President Khatami. He was one of the eight presidential candidates in 2005 and claimed that the votes given to him were rigged in favor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
During the presidential elections in 2005, Mehralizadeh said that Iran’s 6 Turkish provinces will vote for him and used Azeri language in the photos and booklets he spread in Eastern Azerbaijan, Western Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Zanjan, Gazvin and Hamadan provinces, Tehran and come other regions. Moreover, he said in his interview to Iranian TV that he was supported by well-known Azerbaijani Turkologist and surgeon, publisher of Varliq bilingual quarterly magazine in Persian and Azari Dr. Javad Heyati.
