Iran: Ties with Arab states normal, no need to mediation

30 Oct 2013 - 9:06

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham dismissed the recent statements by Egypt's interim foreign minister who had offered help to improve the relations between Tehran and some Arab capital, saying Iran already enjoys normal ties with the Arab nations and "needs no mediation".

"Iran's relations already has normal and established relations with the regional Arab states and it needs no mediation," Afkham told reporters commenting on Nabil Fahmy's recent statements.

Afkham reiterated that Iran's ties with the Arab states are of "a good nature and weight" and need no boost or favor by any third party.

Some Arab media reported late last week that the Egyptian Foreign Minister has offered to mediate easing "tension" between the Persian Gulf States and Iran.

"The tensions between Iran and the UAE have a negative impact on Egypt, and I am ready to meet any demands from the (Persian) Gulf Arab states to clear the climate with Iran if needed," Fahmy said in an interview with Al Arabiya on Saturday.

"If the (Persian) Gulf States have no requests, then I will start my discussions with Iran for the interest of both Egypt and the Persian Gulf States and Egypt will not take a position that will hurt the Persian Gulf national security," Fahmy added during the interview which was conducted on the margines of his visit to the United Arab Emirates.

"Egypt will not take any position that could harm the national security in the (Persian) Gulf," he added.
