A group of Afghan lawmakers have expressed opposition to a potential security pact between Kabul and Washington, saying the deal will cause more bloodshed in Afghanistan.
Deputy Secretary of the Afghan parliament Irfanullah Irfan said the majority of the lawmakers and administrative staff of the Afghan parliament will not attend the national meeting (Loya Jirga) to debate the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA).

The official said the meeting is against the Afghan constitution and the interests of the Afghan people.

Kabul says President Hamid Karzai has the authority to organize the meeting when needed.

The United States is pressing Afghanistan to sign the agreement, which would allow US troops to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2014.

On October 11, US Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Afghanistan and held talks with Karzai over the unsolved issues in the security deal.

The most outstanding issue is the US demand for legal immunity for American soldiers who will stay in Afghanistan beyond the 2014 withdrawal deadline, said spokesman for the Afghan president, Aimal Faizi.
