Damascus, Nov 5, IRNA – Syrian electricity minister will arrive in Tehran later today, Tuesday, to visit International Iranian Electricity Industry Exhibition, said Iranian Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad-Reza Ra’ouf Sheibani.
Iran and Syria have comprehensive cooperation, particularly in energy field, but due to the Syrian crisis some of the underway projects in that country are left unfinished.
The 13th International Iranian Electricity Industry Exhibition will be held from November 6th to 9th at Tehran’s permanent ground for international exhibitions.
The Syrian endowments minister, too, visited Iran last week.
Syria and Iran are strategic allies. Syria has often called Iran its ?closest ally?.
Iran and Syria have had a strategic alliance ever since the Iran–Iraq War, when Syria sided with Iran against Baathist Saddam regime of Iraq.
The two countries shared a common animosity towards the executed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and coordination against Israel.
Currently, Iran is involved in implementing several industrial projects in Syria, including cement factories, car assembly lines, power plants, and silo construction.
Iran also plans to set up a joint Iranian–Syrian bank in the future. The former Iranian presidents and Assad met in Tehran and Baghdad several times.
Iran?s President Hassan Rohani stated on 3 August 2013, his inauguration day, that Iran?s alliance with Syria would continue.
