TEHRAN, Nov. 6 (MNA) – Habibollah Asgaroladi, a member of Iran’s Expediency Council and the secretary general of the Followers of Imam and Leadership, died at the age of 81 on Tuesday.
Asgaroladi was hospitalized two-and-half months ago for cardiovascular diseases.
Asgaroladi was a former secretary general of the Islamic Coalition Party, a highly influential principlist political party.
He served as commerce minister and ran for president in the 1981 and 1985 elections.
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he was the director of the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation, the largest social welfare branch of the government in Iran.
An attempt was made on his life in a failed assassination attempt in 1981. He was also a campaigner against the Phalavi regime.
