Islamabad, Nov 24, IRNA – Pakistan Prime Minister?s Adviser for Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, will leave for Tehran on Monday to participate in meeting of Council of Ministers (COM) of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The Foreign Office Spokesperson Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said on Sunday the adviser will address the 21st COM meeting and is likely to meet some participants to discuss bilateral issues.
The COM meeting will focus on main activities of ECO including transport‚ trade‚ energy‚ environment and agriculture.
The visit is taking place at a time when Iran and the major world powers have reached a deal on nuclear program as Pakistan has always opposed use of force and called for negotiated settlement of the issue.
Pakistan was quick to welcome the agreement and said it will have positive impact on the regional situation.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs, Ibrahim Rahimpour, who had recently visited Islamabad said in a meeting with Sartaj Aziz that Iran’s new government under President Hassan Rouhani is keen to improve relations with regional countries.
