Majlis to decide on additional protocol: Zarif

30 Nov 2013 - 10:01

TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Friday that any decision on whether Iran joins the additional protocol, which allows for more intrusive inspection of the country’s nuclear facilities by the International Atomic Energy Agency, rests with the parliament (Majlis).
“Majlis reserves the right to accept or reject Iran joining the additional protocol and when coming to the point of decision making, Majlis will decide on the basis of the advantages the country won,” Zarif told IRNA after his meeting with Qom seminary dignitaries on Friday.

“We have nothing to hide and the world should know that we are not after production of nuclear arms because it is inhumane and non-Islamic as the Supreme Leader’s fatwa says production and use of nuclear arms is religiously forbidden,” Zarif stated.

Iran signed additional protocol on December 18, 2003 and agreed to act as if the protocol were in force, making the required reports to the IAEA and allowing the required access by IAEA inspectors, pending Iran's ratification of the additional protocol.
