Iranian official: New chapter is opened in Iran-West relations

3 Dec 2013 - 16:14

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham announced on Tuesday that a new chapter has been opened in Iran’s ties with the West.
Talking to reporters during her weekly press briefing, she added that the West has to take a major step to win the trust of the Iranian nation.

Iran is also in favor of opening a new chapter in relations with the neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf region, she noted, adding that the policy is based on the necessity of setting up new forms of cooperation in the region to reinforce peace and stability.

She stated that Iran has always given priority to ties with the neighboring countries.

Commenting on the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Kuwait, she said that during the visit the second meeting of the joint commission was held after a six-year delay.

Asked to comment on the date when the Geneva agreement with the 5+1 would enter a practical phase, she said the December 9-10 meeting between Iranian and 5+1 experts in Vienna will pave the way for implementation of the joint action plan.

As for the date of reopening of the embassies of Iran and Britain, she said it is a gradual process and therefore it is too soon to fix a date for it.

According to the spokeswoman, Zarif is to visit the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
